Permission to Engage in an Activity Other Than That Permitted by the Status of Residence Previously Granted :

Acquisition of Status of Residence :
When a foreign national intends to engage in an activity to operate profit-making businesses or an activity for receiving consideration other than the activity permitted under his/her status of residence (example: a student or dependent visa holder who wants to engage in part time employment), he/she must obtain permission to engage in an activity other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted, in advance.
VISA RELATED APPLICATIONS
A foreign national`s employment eligibility is based on the type of his/her status of residence. For convenience of employers and workers, if a foreign applicant wishes to work in Japan, Immigration Control Act authorizes the immigration control authority to deliver Certificate of Authorized Employment, which specifically indicates authorized vocational activities for the applicant.
If a foreign national who was born in Japan (example: a child of both foreign national living or working in Japan), an individual who became a foreign national after renouncing Japanese nationality, etc., wishes to continue living in Japan, he/she must acquire a status of residence.
Acquisition of Resident Card and Re-Entry Permit :
On July 9, 2012, issuance of resident card to mid- to long-term residents when granted permission pertaining to residence, such as landing permission, permission for change of resident status and permission for extension of the period of stay has started. Along with this new residency management system, the special re-entry system was introduced but the old re-entry system still remains. We can make the acquisition of both the resident card and re-entry permit in behalf of those who can not go to the Regional Immigration Office by themselves.
Notifications to the Regional Immigration Office within 14 Days of Change :
In case a foreign national change his/her name, date of birth, gender, or nationality/region, (example: change in name or nationality/region because of marriage), and also in case of the death or divorce of spouse, change of employment or organization, etc., he/she must notify the Ministry of Justice of the change at a Regional Immigration Office within 14 days of change.
